All-Inclusive – Yoga for Everyone!
This post is also available in:
Yoga in its original form is inclusive, as it aims to meet people where they are.
What Does Inclusion Mean?
Inclusion means that every person is an important part of society and is needed for society to be unique and complete. But how does inclusion work in children’s and/or youth yoga? Can this work? What needs to be considered?
Questions, questions…
What do children and young people with special needs require? How do I design an inclusive yoga class? What is important when you teach children with special educational needs or with diagnoses such as Trisomy 21, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), AD(H)D, or epilepsy? How do I teach trauma-sensitively, and is that even possible with children and young people? What do I, as a children’s/youth yoga teacher, need to feel safe and well-equipped? These are questions that inevitably arise when we deal with this topic.
Why this advanced training?
In this advanced training, we will explore various disabilities and special needs and see what needs to be considered in each case. We will examine whether there is a difference from “regular” children’s yoga and collectively gather ideas and develop classes.
Perhaps this weekend you will realize that we all have our “handicaps” and that it’s not so special to be different, or maybe it is!?
To truly meet every child where they are, it is helpful to equip your methodological toolkit with basic knowledge about children and young people with special needs, so that we can all contribute to our children growing up in a world where we can hopefully soon all say: All-Inclusive – Yoga for everyone!
What can I offer you?
I worked for 21 years at a school specializing in intellectual development, and yoga was always a part of my lessons. Be it in an after-school club, during morning circle, or even in sports class. I will share my professional experience from almost 30 years in special education and over 20 years in yoga with you.
Let’s show that every person is exactly right as they are, and that everyone, truly everyone, can practice yoga!
